Wilderness Bisect
Archival inkjet print
10 x 15"
This image documents a 2200 foot north-south line of surveyors tape bisecting the former lands of Thomas Durant, Long Point Peninsula, Raquette Lake, NY. This was created with students while I was a visiting artist at SUNY Cortland's Camp Huntington. The work examines the complex history of the Adirondacks and the connection of wealthy railroad barons, such as Durant, to the eventual preservation of the Adirondack wilderness. It also serves as transect, providing viewers the opportunity to objectively assess the wilderness and reflect upon it.
