House Boat captures themes that were present in my earlier work and merges them with the theme of the house in more recent work. The stubby form of the boat came out of the organic seed and nut forms I had been doing, which were also like the earlier moon sculptures. The ovoid form clearly has the detailing of a boat- planking, gunwales, and shallow keel but the construction would clearly cause it to sink. The interior is the inverted form of a house. Similar to the later house series, this sculpture takes a skewed view of the idyllic concept of a house- boat and turns it into a paradox.
